About Domburg

A wave beach on the Walcheren coast, below the dunes and the old dike. Rows of wooden poles (groynes) run out into the sea close together, and some disappear at high water.

Strong tidal currents run along the beach, with rips between the groynes. Kitesurfers rate it a serious wave spot: the Dutch kitesurf association lists it as experts only.

The beach faces NW (324°). Offshore wind, the clean kind, blows from between E and SSW; onshore wind from between WSW and NE chops it up; the rest is cross-shore.

We take the wind 5 km out to sea, check the waves against Rijkswaterstaat's Schouwenbank station 24 km away, and read storm surge at the Westkapelle gauge.

Along the coast: Westkapelle to the north.
