About Westkapelle
The western tip of Walcheren, where the coast turns from north-west to west. The sandy beach south of the village is wide; few people sail or surf here compared with Domburg.
The shipping lane into the Westerschelde and the Vlissingen ferries pass offshore.
The beach faces W (276°). Offshore wind, the clean kind, blows from between NE and SE; onshore wind from between SSW and NNW chops it up; the rest is cross-shore.
We take the wind 5 km out to sea, check the waves against Rijkswaterstaat's Schouwenbank station 26 km away, and read storm surge at the Westkapelle gauge.
Along the coast: Domburg to the south, Hoek van Holland to the north.
