About Noordwijk
A long, open beach with no groynes in the water. Three sandbanks run along it; the first is shallow, which matters at low tide.
Watersports have set zones here, several of them run by clubs; Langevelderslag to the north is the open one.
The beach faces WNW (288°). Offshore wind, the clean kind, blows from between ENE and SSE; onshore wind from between SW and N chops it up; the rest is cross-shore.
We take the wind 5 km out to sea, check the waves against Rijkswaterstaat's Hollandse Kust Zuid platform station 16 km away, and read storm surge at the Scheveningen gauge.
Along the coast: Scheveningen to the south, Zandvoort to the north.
