About Egmond aan Zee
An open beach with a mild shorebreak, a mild current and no obstacles in the water. Watersports stay between the black-and-white chequered flags; from 1 May to 1 October they are limited to the activity beach, anywhere in winter.
The beach faces W (273°). Offshore wind, the clean kind, blows from between NE and SE; onshore wind from between SSW and NNW chops it up; the rest is cross-shore.
We take the wind 5 km out to sea, check the waves against Rijkswaterstaat's Hollandse Kust Noord platform station 24 km away, and read storm surge at the IJmuiden gauge.
Along the coast: Wijk aan Zee to the south, Petten to the north.
